A truly unique, tropical, paradise; the perfect location for fly fishing in Central America.
The remote private island of Punta Pájaros extends for twenty-five miles between Ascension and Espiritu Santo Bays, in the Yucatan state of Quintana Roo, a perfect location for fly fishing. A truly unique tropical paradise, the island rests in the center of one of the world’s largest protected areas and Unesco World Heritage site, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
At Punta Pájaros, a carefully managed private preserve within the biosphere, the natural world coexists peacefully with its human counterpart. A notable example is the resident pair of jaguars recently documented hunting green turtles on the island’s beaches. From a fly-fisherman’s perspective, the location of Punta Pájaros could not be more perfect. With Casa Blanca Lodge on the southern edge of Ascension Bay and Playa Blanca on the northern edge of Espiritu Santo Bay, both lodges are literally surrounded by some of the most sought after game fish in the world.
Casa Blanca is an angler’s paradise. Situated on the northern tip of Punta Pájaros with immediate access to the prime fishing areas of Ascension Bay, our guests spend less time traveling to the fish. The lodge is built right on the water, overlooking a beautiful flat visited daily by bonefish schools, permit and tarpon. Some of the best fishing takes place right off the lighted pier after dark.
All rooms are spacious and well appointed with remarkable ocean views, air conditioning, tile floors and mahogany shutters. Casa Blanca has ten seaside rooms and can accommodate twenty-two people comfortably. In the open-air main lodge you will find comfortable lounging chairs and a fully stocked bar with accommodating bartender. After a long day on the flats it’s nice to recount your adventures to fellow anglers while sipping an ice-cold beverage and enjoying the daily selection of “botanas” (snacks) prepared fresh every afternoon. After a shower, make your way to the dining room to enjoy the chef’s daily specialty.
Ten miles south of Casa Blanca you will find Playa Blanca Lodge. One of angling’s best-kept secrets, Playa Blanca Lodge has unrivaled access to the flats frontier of Espiritu Santo Bay. Loaded with bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook, it would be impossible to find a better destination from which to fish this remote area. Playa Blanca is a spacious, luxurious lodge with a deep-set covered porch, perfect for reading and relaxing, as well as a roof top sanctuary- a fabulous place for stargazing. Walk along the white sand pathways and you will come to a large palapa at the water’s edge, equipped with comfortable furniture and brightly colored hammocks.
Playa Blanca Lodge features large duplex cabanas spaced among the palms near the beach. The rooms have terracotta floors, large bathrooms with marble vanities, and natural wood furnishings set in white interiors with tropical accents. Each room has its own patio overlooking the grounds and nearby Caribbean. Rooms set back from the ocean have air conditioning, while ocean front rooms take advantage of the sea breezes. The lodge offers seven rooms and accommodates fourteen guests perfectly.
