Come experience the underwater wonders of Belize where the second largest living barrier reef in the world.
Since 1974 fishermen, families, divers, couples and eco-adventure travelers have made El Pescador their top choice for an all inclusive Belize Family Adventures . One of the first things travelers new to Ambergris Cay wants to know about the beaches. White coral sand beaches line the entire coastline and the shallow water right off the beach is a mosaic of sea grass beds and patches of sandy areas. On some beaches, you’ll find mostly sand that makes them great for swimming, and in other areas, you’ll find mostly sea grass.
It’s important to remember that sea grass beds are nurseries for many of the local species of fish. They are directly responsible for the diversity and abundance of fishes you see when fishing our flats and snorkeling Belize’s Barrier Reef Nevertheless, aside from the patches of sea grass beds, the beaches are white, the coconut trees are green, and the crystal clear water glimmers in the sunlight with infinite hues of blue.
Scuba Diving
Belize lies on the Caribbean coast of Central America between Guatemala and Mexico. Its 17,000 square miles include dense tropical jungles, a coastline of mangrove swamp, a mountain range with peaks over 3,500 feet and 266 square miles of smaller islands known as cays that are surrounded by coral reefs. Fabulous diving is found everywhere on the barrier reef which stretches the entire 175 miles of the coastline. In addition, three atolls provide another 180 miles of living reef.
El Pescador offers divers a un-Belize-able adventure exploring virgin reefs and cays. When diving along the main barrier reef at Ambergris Cay, you will experience the vast canyons formed by large, living corals rising from a sandy bottom. These canyons are found just outside the reef at depths of 50 – 100 feet. The reef is usually found quite close to the Cay, no more than three-quarters of a mile. The caves in the canyons are riddled with tunnels. Schools of snappers, grouper, and nurse sharks are quite common. The occasional hammerhead or black tip shark gives divers a thrill.
The abundance of marine life along the barrier reef is remarkable. You may encounter a school of porpoises or amberjacks. Spotted eagle rays are often seen in groups of three or four while the rare manta ray usually travels alone. Turtles are common, and you may spot a lone barracuda swimming in the open waters away from the corals.
Come experience the underwater wonders of Belize where the second largest living barrier reef in the world. Belize’s barrier reef is host to a variety of species including sharks, rays, eels, groupers, parrot fish, trigger fish, sea horses, turtles, shrimp, sea fans, coral and others.
